UV light has treated water since the beginning of time through natural sunlight. Modern UV systems use a UV lamp in a clear quartz or polymer (like teflon) jacket around which passes the untreated water. The UV light kills the nucleus of pathogenslike coliform bacteria, which effectively neutralizes them by preventing them from reproducing.

Conventional water purifiers use a pre-filter, carbon filter &/or a UV lamp to simply filterout sand particles and de-activate some bacteria. However, this water can not be store for more than few hours as the bacteria starts regenerating. The water may look clear in appearance but may contain active bacteria, Virus and other harmful contaminants in the dissolved form which cannot be seen by the naked eye. Methods like filteration, boiling, UV treatment etc. have no effect on TDS
